Get Tested
Will you know if you have an STI?
You might think you will know if you have a sexually transmitted infection (STI). But that is just not true! Many STIs cause no symptoms or only mild symptoms that you might overlook or ignore.
If you are having sex, it is a good idea to get tested for STIs, especially if any of these things are true:
- You had sex with a new partner.
- You are thinking about having sex with a new partner. Your new partner should get tested too before you have sex.
- You have multiple partners
- You and your partner(s) do not use condoms.
- You have STI symptoms.
- You have been treated for a STI and 3 months have passed since your treatment ended.
- You are younger than 25 years old.
- You are a man or transwoman who has sex with people who identify as men.
- You exchange sex for things like food, shelter, money, or drugs.
- You are having sex and have never had an STI test.
If you are an intravenous (IV) drug user, you are also at an increased risk of getting HIV.
At IWTK, we recognize that inequitable social, economic, and health systems disproportionally contribute “risk” for STIs to certain communities. These risks add to and compound individual risks. For practical reasons, the risks mentioned here are only based on individual behaviors.
Can STIs be spread through oral sex? The answer is yes! Many STIs can be spread this way.
Getting tested using IWTK
At IWTK we currently offer our users tests for chlamydia [kla-mid-ee-a] and gonorrhea [gone-or-ee-ah]. These are the two common STIs. We also offer trichomonas [trick-a-moan-us] testing for women and in-home HIV test kits for residents of Baltimore City. We do not test for other STIs, although we might start in the future. If you want to be tested for other STIs, you should go to an STI clinic, a health clinic, or a personal physician.
We are not currently able to test anyone who lives outside of Maryland, Oklahoma, Kansas, Alaska, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Oregon, Idaho or Arizona. There are a few other important things to know about ordering from IWTK:
- You must be at least 14 years old to order an STI test kit and at least 17 years old to order an in-home HIV test kit.
- You may not order a kit for someone else. Each user must create their own account and order their own kit.
- It is important for you to tell us your full name and complete address when you place your order. This will help ensure that your kit is delivered by the postal service.
- If you order a kit but do not return your sample(s) for testing, you cannot order another kit until you make that return or Contact Us.
- Everything is free, including the kit, testing, and postage. Results are reliable. No one will have to know! Order Now!
